We are Hestia. We make a difference.
At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence. Right now, we are looking for a Communications Manager to play a pivotal role in our Central Services team in London.
Sounds great, what will I be doing?
The Communications Manager will play a key role in raising Hestia's profile and positioning us as a trusted voice in supporting people to recover from trauma and crisis. This includes working on our various comms channels and functions to promote our work in domestic abuse and sexual violence, mental health, modern slavery and more, in partnership with colleagues across the organisation.
Working as part of a small team, the successful candidate will help to increase brand awareness of Hestia, media relationships, and support the wider communications and fundraising team to reach its targets.
As a key member of the Communications team at Hestia, you will support the Head of Communications in shaping and delivering a strategic annual communications plan aligned with the charity's priorities. This includes creating consistent messaging, reporting on communications impact, and contributing to continuous learning and improvement within the team. You will also play a role in implementing recommendations from an upcoming external review of Hestia's communications function, helping to ensure that best practices are followed and that our approach remains fresh and relevant.
In the media space, you will act as a primary point of contact for journalists, writing and editing press materials, and cultivating relationships with media outlets to promote local and national stories about Hestia's work. Your role will be central in building Hestia's reputation as a trusted and authoritative voice, increasing awareness of our services and advocacy efforts. You will also be part of a shared on-call rota to respond to media enquiries outside of office hours.
You will lead on content creation across multiple formats and channels, capturing the voices and experiences of service users in a sensitive, trauma-informed way. This includes managing multimedia assets, producing marketing materials, and generating powerful case studies and thought leadership pieces in collaboration with internal experts. Additionally, you'll oversee a case study database and help maintain a strong visual and narrative identity aligned with Hestia's values, including its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Beyond these core areas, you will contribute to a collaborative, high-performing culture across the communications team and wider directorate, supporting inclusive practices and championing continuous improvement and shared success.
What do I need to bring with me?
You'll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires as well as match our values and mission. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you're willing to learn. We also value lived experience of the areas we support, so if you feel comfortable, please do mention this on your application.
Here's what the team will be looking for
The ideal candidate will bring at least four years of experience in public relations, communications, marketing, or engagement roles, with a proven ability to craft compelling written content that tells powerful stories. They should have hands-on experience developing and executing local media opportunities, along with basic design and video editing skills using tools like Canva. A solid understanding of safeguarding practices for adults and children at risk is essential.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are key to success in this role. The candidate must be empathetic, an active listener, and able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. They should be confident in building collaborative relationships across teams and committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in all aspects of their work.
Additionally, the role requires excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and remain effective under pressure. A strong team player, the successful candidate will be adaptable, proactive, and capable of contributing to a positive and high-performing work environment.
