The service you will work in….

The Oremi Day Centre service delivers person-centered and holistic support to service users, aged over 18, who have a severe and/or enduring mental health need and living in Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. This includes targeted services to service users from African, Caribbean and Arabic speaking heritage. Our service enables users to avoid, and in particular to reduce the need for, prolonged hospital admissions and long-term dependency on mental health services.

We promote recovery and prevent social exclusion among service users with mental health support needs and offer a wide range of group activities that are tailored to the service users' needs. Group activities are run by our in-house team of experienced and trained Group Facilitators, by sessional tutors and in co-production with service users. The overall aim of support provision is preventing hospital admissions and facilitating earlier discharge, promoting recovery, social inclusion and helping service users to maximise their independence and wellbeing, access to employment, training.

Activities at Oremi Centre include the Hearing Voices Group, the Social Group, Sewing Club, the walking Group, Yoga and mindfulness.

A day in this role looks like….

As a Recovery Outreach Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health & Complex Needs Service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • To be responsible for the support and well-being of a caseload of service users with enduring mental health, including African, Caribbean, and Arabic speaking service users using holistic, person-centred support planning with SMART targets and the recovery star using the recovery approach to enable them to increase
    independence, maintain their accommodation and enjoy a good quality of life.
  • To ensure that specific services and activities are provided to meet the needs of all service users including those of African, Caribbean and Arabic speaking heritage.
  • To visit service users for support sessions within their homes or appropriate community locations.
  • To devise effective interventions for service users who are ‘hard to engage'.
  • To enable service users to access medical services and the local community mainstream services.
  • To ensure that allocated service users have a needs & risk assessment and SMART support plan, which are reviewed at agreed frequencies.
  • To minimise unplanned and emergency hospital admissions for mental health relapse.
  • To formulate, implement and review support plans with service users and associated professionals.
  • To liaise effectively and advocate on behalf of service users with other agencies involved in their support as where appropriate.
  • To encourage service users to build self-confidence and to have engagement with health and social networks including faith-based groups and informal sources of support.

  • Experience of working to meeting the cultural needs of African, Caribbean, and Arabic service users with mental health support needs.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with people of African, Caribbean, and Arabic heritage requiring support related to mental ill health and complex needs within a community/outreach setting.
  • Ability to support service users to achieve their goals & aspirations in a culturally appropriate setting.
  • Ability to help service users to acquire, develop or enhance their daily living skills.
  • Experience of promoting, implementing, maintaining Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion good practice.
  • Excellent knowledge of, issues related to signs, symptoms, and treatments of mental illness; ability to assess service users declining mental health and take appropriate action.
