About the service....

The service you will work on is Hammersmith and Fulham Mental Health Accommodation Service in South Cluster, which consists of 3 services at Edgar Wright Court, Moore Park Road and Bishop Road. We support people in enduring mental health crises aged 18+ who have housing and support needs. They may be leaving the hospital, being registered for care, being homeless, being threatened to be homeless or living accommodation that is not meeting their identified needs. The services will also be used as a ‘step up' or ‘step down' from other supported accommodation, where appropriate.

A day in this role looks like…..

As a support worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health Service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and with the goal of finding permanent accommodation and living independently. A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Empower a caseload of clients to manage their health and wellbeing, maintain their independence, identify their strengths and achieve their goals and aspirations, working in partnership with our subcontractors as required to achieve this under the direction of the Team Leader
  • To clearly articulate the aims and objectives, pathway and service model to people using the service so they can fully participate in and co-produce support plans.
  • Empower service users to engage effectively in their liaisons with professionals within the community such as social work teams, housing providers, health professionals, JCP etc
  • Work flexibly as part of a team to ensure service coverage and that contractual obligations are met
  • Develop co-produced group activities, peer support networks and other community-based approaches to empowering service users to achieve their goals and aspirations and to encourage service users to access these opportunities
  • Actively monitor the health, well-being, safety and security of the service and its users, ensuring all concerns are followed up promptly and in line with procedures
  • Ensure that administration is done in good time, that detailed, concise and accurate records are created contemporaneously, and that confidentiality is appropriately maintained
  • Assist the manager to manage health and safety, repairs and maintenance of the premises
  • To collect rent and service charges and manage arrears proactively by following policy, protocol and procedure to residents to maintain their tenancy and develop independent living skills by paying service charges & rent
  • Provides manager to manage voids across the service.
  • Ensure referrals, assessments and service reviews are effective and timely.
  • Empower service users to develop independent living skills as part of a planned move-on process.
  • Assist the manager in planning, negotiating and managing budgets and making best use of property, equipment and information technology.

  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Good IT skills with a good understanding of MS Excel & Word.

  • Demonstrable experience or awareness of supporting people with mental health and complex needs.​
  • Safeguarding knowledge and experience in working for vulnerable people.
  • Experience of working with people with a range of different support needs, aspirations for their future and associated risks.
  • Experience in delivering high-quality accommodation-based support services to people with a range of needs and risks.
  • Good knowledge of welfare benefits and housing options, and legislation related to statutory duty.
  • Knowledge of health and safety in accommodation services. 
  • An ability to undertake client-focused key working, support planning and risk assessments to maximise Service Users' independence.
  • Good team player with the ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Able to lone work.
